We’ve all heard about serums and the amazing
things they can do for our skin! We’re here to help you understand what they
are and show you how you can make your own to target every skincare concern! Serums are a lightweight mixture of concentrated ingredients
that should be applied to your skin once a day to help fix skin issues. Some are water based and should be applied
before your moisturiser, while others are oil based and should be applied after your
moisturiser. Although these ingredients are expensive,
you can make several mixtures of your serum that will last you many years! Today we’re going to be making oil based
serums which are a blend of two types of oils – carrier oils and essential oils. Carrier oils have moisturising
or nourishing properties like jojoba oil, rosehip oil and almond oil They’re used to dilute the essential oils
to make them safe for application. The essential oils are extremely concentrated
and each help fix specific skin concerns. You can make a blend of any combination of
carrier oil and essential oils as long as you use a ratio of 2 tbsp of carrier oil to
10 drops of essential oils. Mix 2 tbsp of sweet almond oil with 5 drops
of rose essential oil and 5 drops of lavender essential oil. The sweet almond oil is incredibly rich in
Vitamin E which nourishes skin and prevents premature ageing and the rose oil hydrates
dry skin and lavender soothes irritated skin. Mix together 2 tbsp of jojoba oil with 3 drops
of tea tree oil, 5 drops of lavender oil and 3 drops of lemongrass oil. Jojoba oil is extremely mild and is similar
to the natural oil in our skin. Tea tree oil has acne fighting properties,
lavender will soothe inflamation and irritation and the lemongrass is an antibacterial. Combine 2 tbsp rosehip oil with 3 drops carrot
oil, 3 drops pomegranate oil and 5 drops frankincense oil. Rosehip oil is one of the most effective carrier
oils to promote skin regeneration. Carrot oil is a winner for antiageing and
is full of vitamins A, C and E. The pomegranate oil hydrates and reduces sun damage and frankincense
reduces wrinkles. Mix together 2 tbsp of argan oil, 5 drops
of carrot oil, 3 drops of lemon oil and 3 drops of rose oil. The argan oil is incredibly nourishing and
will bring life back to your skin while the carrot oil with repair damaged skin, the lemon
oil will brighten and reduce pigmentation and the rose oil will hydrate your skin. Store these in serums for 6-8 months
in dark coloured bottles as over time sunlight can make your mixture less effective. Use them by applying 2-3 drops directly onto
your skin and then gently blending it in to help absorption. Remember that serums containing lemon oil
should not be worn during the day as is can make your skin sensitive to the sun. We hope this video helps you better understand
what serums are and how you can customize your own at home! Until next time stay tuned and stay Glamrs.
